Anamon releases two new rock songs for broken hearts | Music reviews

On December 12, Rochester’s garage rock quartet Anamon gave listeners something of a holiday giveaway – a pair of free songs to stream and download. Having not heard much from the band since before the pandemic began, “My Baby Left Me” and “Bad Subtraction” sound like revisiting an old friend.

Both songs scroll at a brisk pace as they address feelings of loss and heartache, but the contrast between the two is what makes the pairing work so well. At barely 91 seconds, “My Baby Left Me” is muddy rock ‘n’ roll, with singer-guitarist Ana Monaco projecting a cold indifference.

While the brevity and swagger of the first song suggests denial and contempt for the pain after a breakup, “Sad Subtraction” has a more emotional, “heart-on-the-neck” feeling, with its guitar overdrive and thrilling drums. . , and Monaco chanting, “Is there less of me because you want more of me?”

In total, the music lasts only five minutes, but it is more than enough to make you wonder what you will hear from Anamon next.
