Summer Rock Songs: 12 Inch Poll

This week’s 12 inch poll is all about creating a soundtrack for your summer. We ask you to choose your favorite summer rock songs.

Before going to the vote, I will explain my methodology. I wanted a decent sized list of summer songs, but not too much to be overwhelming, so I went with 16. I know, I know. It’s usually 12. I’m Adam 12, after all. But when I got to 12, there were still a few that I knew if I didn’t add I would hear about you, so that’s 16.

Next, the definition of a “summer rock song”. The song, naturally, should have the word “summer” in the title. Or another word or term related to summer. Or, at the very least, references to summer in the song itself. And it should be a rock song. No disrespect to DJ Jazzy Jeff and the Fresh Prince. “Summertime” has been a seasonal tradition since the summer of 1991. But it’s not for this poll.

Oh, and one more note: I avoided the old ones. Sure Mungo Jerry “In The Summertime” and The Kinks “Summer Afternoon” and The Beatles “Here Comes The Sun” and The Drifters “Under The Boardwalk” and Otis Redding “Sitting On The Dock Of The Bay” and The Lovin’ Spoonful “Summer In The City” and essentially the entire Beach Boys and Ventures catalog are summer staples. But not for this poll.

So now that you know the inner workings of my dumb brain, let’s dive into the pool, uh, poll. Sixteen rock songs that are best played at high volume when the the sun is shining and the summer is getting hot. Scroll through the playlist, let the summer memories of your carefree youth come back, then choose the summer song that rocks you the most. Maybe I’ll play the winner on my show later this week.
